Movie Review : Midnight sun
Movie Review:
A movie that'll make you cry
By Juliette Robillard
The movie "Midnight sun" is a movie that came out in 2018 directed by Scott Speer. It's the story of a 17 years old girl named Katie affected by a disease that prevent her to be exposed to sun. It is call XP (Xeroderma Pigmentosum) and it's a real disease that affect only one person on 1 000 000 and that can lead the person affected by to death. This movie relates the life of Katie who doesn't go to school and never went outside. However, she checks outside every day at the same hour to see a boy named Charlie go to school on a skateboard. She only lives with her father because her mother died in a car accident when she was younger. She has only one friend, Morgan. The night of the graduation day, she took her guitar and went to the train station to play and sing. There, she meets Charlie who seemed interest by her. Of course, she was nervous because she watched him go to school every day since primary school. Since then, she hangs out with him every night without ever telling him about her disease. One night, he decided to bring her to a real date. They went to the city and he make her sing in front of many people. Everyone liked it and they were happy. After, they went to the beach and they swim in the cold water. They pass the rest of the night close to the fire and watching the stars. When Charlie say something about the sunrise coming soon, Katie started panic and ran home. Despite that, some sunray touches her. After that she wasn't feeling good and the doctor says that she was dying. Not a long time after she die. It was a very sad moment, I cried.
In general, I really liked this movie because I like when a movie makes me cry. It means for me that it touches myself emotionally and it was good. I think the story was well developed and clear to understand. I liked that it was a movie about a disease and that it didn't end well because it shows the reality of things; not every story end well like in Disney movies. I also really liked the music use in the movie, it helped feeling the emotions of the characters.
There's nothing I didn't like about this movie. I watched it two times and I really think this is one of my favorite's movies. The only thing didn't like about the movie is that it was too short!
The characters were amazing, the played well their role and they were endearing. I cannot relate to one of them but maybe someone affected by XP will like this movie because he/she will be able to relate with Katie.
Like I already say, this is one of my favorite movies and if you like romantic/drama movie you must see it, it's on Netflix! I will finish with a quotation in this movie that I really like: "Dreams come true at night".
